The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, is seeking applications for a full-time, clinical or tenure track, faculty appointment in the area of Food Animal Medicine and Surgery in the Department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine.
The successful candidate will join a department with over 50 food animal focused faculty and 150 staff. This position will commit approximately 50-75% effort toward professional practice and outreach, 30-50% towards teaching, and 5-20% towards research. The primary focus for all aspects of the position will be on food animal medicine and surgery. This position will have responsibilities for providing professional medical and surgical services to patients referred to the Food Animal and Camelid Hospital of the Iowa State University Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC). On a limited basis, services may also be provided to patients on privately owned farms serviced by the ISU Veterinary Field Services unit, and to patients on university farms. Teaching responsibilities include providing clinical instruction to fourth year veterinary students in the VDPAM 477 (Food Animal Medicine and Surgery) rotation while delivering clinical services to clients. The candidate will be expected to provide selected lectures on food animal medicine and surgery in other courses in the professional curriculum. The research expectation will be collaborative in nature and depend on the interests of the selected candidate. Fulfillment of research for this position will include scholarship of teaching and learning of clinical skills and techniques and advancing best practices in food animal medicine and surgery.

Required Minimum Qualiï¬cations:
DVM or equivalent degree.
Experience as an internist or surgeon in an academic institution or referral hospital. This may include experience as a resident.
State of Iowa Veterinary License on or before ï¬rst date of employment.
In addition to the requirements above, below are minimum qualiï¬cations at the following ranks:
CLINICAL ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: A minimum of 5 years of experience in a progressive, high quality veterinary medical practice or university.
CLINICAL PROFESSOR: A minimum of 10 years of experience in a progressive, high quality veterinary medical practice or university.
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: Evidence of experience conducting research or other scholarly activity. ASSOCIATE OR FULL PROFESSOR: An established record of experience and scholarship appropriate to each rank at Iowa State University.
Preferred Qualiï¬cations:
Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM), American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS), or European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS), with large animal emphasis. Individuals having successfully completed an ACVIM or ACVS residency program, credentials accepted by the ACVIM or ACVS, or are in their third year of internal medicine or surgical residency training are also encouraged to apply and will be considered.
Additional years of experience practicing food animal veterinary medicine.
Additional years of experience in food animal surgery.
Demonstrated ability to instruct veterinary students and house officers.
An advanced degree (MS, PhD, or equivalent degree) in large animal clinical sciences or related ï¬eld.

VDPAM was created in 1997 to strategically grow the resources and emphasis in production animal medicine at the ISU College of Veterinary Medicine. VDPAM consists of approximately 55 faculty and 150 staff and many of our faculty and staff serve food animal agriculture through the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Centerâ™s Food Animal and Camelid Hospital. The LVMC provides advanced, specialized medical care and 24/7 emergency services.Our team of board-certiï¬ed specialists (internal medicine, surgery, theriogenology), residents and interns, fourth- year veterinary students, and registered veterinary technicians work together to offer medical and surgical care and diagnostics to a variety of species including cattle, sheep, alpacas, llamas, goats. The hospital has specialized equipment and a dedicated large-animal treatment area that includes stalls for cattle, small ruminants, and camelids to provide patient-focus veterinary care.
